Seamless Moulded
A seamless, male moulded mast is just as it says, seamless. The uni-directional carbon fibers are pre-impregnated with high temperature resins on 300mm width rolls. The fibers are then applied by hand to aluminum, male moulds. The fibers are wrapped completely around the male mould in an engineered laminate schedule up to lengths of 33 meters. There are no seams as in the female moulding process that requires two halves of the moulded fibers to be joined. For masts in excess of 33 meters the upper and lower mast profiles are joined using an internally bonded, carbon fiber sleeve. Offshore Spars has been moulding carbon fiber masts using this method for the past 18 years with no failures.
