At Offshore Spars, we strive to build a mast to best suit the customer’s needs. Whether you’re an around the world cruiser, day sailor, or grand prix racer the rigging on your spar needs to be custom tailored to how you will use the boat.
Wire rigging is made from smaller strands of stainless which are twisted together, often refered to as 1×19, this rigging is an economical solution which offers durability and reliability.
Also known as Nitronic 50, this high strength, low corrosive grade of stainless steel has been used in sailboat rigging for decades. Being a solid piece of stainless, it has less stretch than wire rigging and a smooth finish. The end fittings are “cold headed” which means the end is formed into a cone shape with a large press, no heat is needed. This produces a very strong and small end on the rod. With a proven track record for decades, this rigging choice maintains its crown as the most reliable product on the market. If you are Offshore cruiser looking for the safest product, look no further.
If weight is a big concern for you, the newest products on the market offer substantial savings. Both Carbon and PBO are genetically engineered fibers which have extremely high strength to weight ratios. These fibers are now commonplace in the rigging market and offered in a variety of forms. This emerging technology is changing at a very rapid pace and as it does, the reliability and trust in the products are growing. Ask us about adding one of these products to your spar and we’d be happy to recommend a solution for you.
