PBO and Kelvar
While carbon rigging has really taken over as the clear leader in lateral or athwartships rigging systems, PBO and Kevlar do still have a place in the industry. Often used for torsional stays and for and aft says where stretch is not as big of a concern, these materials still offer a nice weight savings for cost ratio.
While the carbon rigging industry continues refine their products Offshore Spars continues to work closely with these manufacturers to refine the rigging to mast interfaces. The below highlights some of areas where interface design changes have helped improve the overall end product for the customer.
- Internal diagonal tangs decrease windage.
- Lashing tangs increase safety factors and offer a lighter more reliable connection vs traditional metal fittings.
- New spreader tooling has produced minimally sized spreader tips which reduce weight and windage.
